I am very proud of myself. I created a masterpiece.
Since my father died six years ago my mother has not seen or heard him on video. For her 60th birthday I aspired to create a picture/video montage as a gift. I hadn’t thought about how the process would shake my foundation. I spent weeks collecting and sorting family photos and reviewing videos of family vacations. I experienced a heartwarming fondness for my childhood and my spectacular and close family. I smiled, cried and remembered. By the time I finished the video was my masterpiece.
The soundtrack, To Build A Home by The Cinematic Orchestra, is perfect not only for its epic beauty but because it encapsulates what fathers do for their families. They give selflessly to build a home and a life for their family. This is my tribute to the man who built a home for me.
ps. If you cry I will consider it a success!

Laura,
This is a “masterpiece”, it captured exactly what the DeVeau family is all about! I cried and was really drawn in by the tender rememberance of your dad and family through the years! I know your wedding day will be bittersweet! I know he will be looking down from above watching you, as he did with Amy! Thank you for sharing this! xoxo

I am Teresa’s twin sister and I have an 11-year daughter, Isabelle, who loves your brother, David. My husband also passed away from kidney cancer on June 30, 2005. How I cried viewing your “masterpiece”. I only wish I knew how to creat something like this as a memory to give my daughter. God Bless you and your family.

Lauara
I am going to send you a note at your private email as what I feel about this video is so long in words. Not only did I weep, I felt so drawn to your father (as I do see a lot of your dad in David). Your efforts were so beautiful it captured the true essence of “home”. You must feel proud as this collection was truly beautiful and I have no doubt your mom was heartened to receive such a gift (that she truly deserves). Thank you for sharing your home and family with us. Deveau’s are truly wonderful loving people. I continue to try to learn to be a more tender person through David.

This was absolutely beautiful. It’s amazing how much you look like your mother when she was young! I wish I had known your father… he seems like a remarkable man. He may have left our world, but the children that he brought into it will surely carry out his wishes and dreams :) Thank you!

Laura – this video is so incredible. It is most definitely a masterpiece. I’m amazed at how you’ve been able to so poignantly honor your father, show us the loving home he created, and the beautiful family that he raised. This reminds me of how precious family is – and the time spent with them is irreplaceable.
Thanks for sharing, Laura. It makes me cry every time.
