The Story of Bottled Water

By: Nikki H | July 26, 2010

Laura wrote a blog post a while back about The Story of Stuff.  She linked to a video that showed how our insatiable desire for "stuff" is not sustainable.  Shockingly, 99% of the "stuff" we buy is trashed within 6 months.  That's hard on our Mother Earth, folks!  The below video, created by the same people, shows us one simple thing we can do to tread lighter on our dear planet: give up bottled water.  The energy used to create and transport the bottles, plus the waste created by the emptied ones are devastating to our planet.  I've got my reusable water bottle sitting here at home, and I'll be sure to grab it on the way to work tomorrow.  Are you a fan of bottled water?  If so, could you give it up for a couple days? A week?  Give it a try - and let us know how easy or difficult it is!

I agree, Sue! We’re even drinking out of mason jars in my apartment! Every little bit helps!

Great film! In my home, we’ve been using refillable stainless steel water bottles filled with our own filtered tap water for a long time now. It’s cheaper, cleaner, and tastes better than bottled. Win/win all the way around… I wish more people would wake up to the plastic water bottle scam.
